I have decided to attend Sunday Mass at Birmingham Cathedral from now onwards :) I was in awe of the detailed interiors and the lovely choir. I truly enjoyed today's Mass and although it isn't a Catholic church, I did not mind at all. I would love to come back every week.
On the bus to the Cathedral this morning, I sat next to a good old man and we ended up talking for a bit. He mentioned he had been to the Philippines many many years ago as he used to be a a seaman. He even asked if we could have coffee! I politely declined as I was going to be at church. He was such a sweet one as he kissed my hand when we said our goodbyes. May God bless him with good health and good company forever.
My heart couldn't help but ache for the many lonely old people in the world :( But also I felt happy to have given a smile to someone even for a short while.

A few words on Kris...
I've never been smitten with a celebrity until I started scrolling through Kris Aquino's IG. I mean, of course, I have seen her on the telly and in movies many times before but I guess I never really thought that much about her.
My mom and I watch snippets of Kris TV occasionally on YouTube. It was only until recently when we started watching full episodes on a daily basis. Sure she's maarte and a little too expressive at times - but one thing I can definitely see in her is that she's smart. Like, intellectual smart and not tuso smart. And all her kaartehan is most likely just her way of sharing all the beauty and colour in her life.
Have you ever noticed how she's great with numbers, how she knows quite a bit about interpreting blood test results and what's in your food, and how important she thinks it is to read for pleasure? I love how she's wonderful with her kids, too, and puts them first in everything she does. And don't get me started on how she treats her staff - I bet she's the kind of boss people love to work with. I think the best thing I've noticed about her as well is that she genuinely prays for PNoy - not only because he's her brother but also because he is holding a great responsibility in his hands. When was there ever a time in which we prayed for our President? I really was humbled when I realised I never partook in this activity and that it is good practice to join in no matter who gets elected into that role.
I've never really looked up to celebrities. I must admit I didn't think there was much substance to them but here comes Kris proving me wrong and showing me that there is much more to showbiz than I can ever imagine. I mean, they're people, too. And so brave to face the world's criticisms.
I hope she comes up with an autobiography in the future. I sure would love to read that!
Love,
R

Nicest dream ever!
So last night I had a dream that Dr. Castellano (from The Mindy Project!) and I were kissing... in the shower.
Haha - I know, right? He wasn't a particularly great kisser (ha!) but I woke up feeling like it was gonna be a great day.
Thanks, Dr. C! I needed that :D

Roll-up Goals!
Yay, me, for starting the Blogilates Beginners Calendar 2.0!
Nay, me, for not being able to do the simple Pilates move called the roll-up :(
Actually, I can... I could... At first... But then I couldn't do it any more after that.
Which is really weird. The first time I did it, I did it while watching Cassey's video and when I successfully completed that one single roll-up, I was like, "Hey, this is not bad at all!"
I then attempted another roll-up and I simply could not get my back off the floor. What is this sorcery?!
Short-term goal: To successfully do a roll-up.

Tea and TV
Here I am sipping on my Strawberry and Cream infusion while enjoying the quirks and perks of The Mindy Project. I am loving this show!
Gotta tell ya - Disney's Inside Out made me want to watch The Mindy Project. Our girl Mindy is hilarious. Both as 'Disgust' and as 'Dr. Lahiri'.

My Parcel has Arrived!
Hands up - those who hate the feeling of missing a delivery.
Of course everyone hates the feeling of missing a delivery.
Hands up - those who know something will be delivered today but cannot do anything about it as they are cooped up in a windowless office, miles away from location of delivery.
That is me. Two hands up in the air.
Haha! I'm exaggerating a little bit. It really wasn't that bad. I'm just glad the courier guy finally gave up on re-attempting to deliver my parcel each day so he just left the box on my doorstep for me to pick up when I get home. Problem solved.
I have been pretty excited for this parcel to arrive. It contains my very first order from Ringtons Tea! The other day I decided to treat myself to £20 worth of tea. I couldn't pass up free delivery from Ringtons so I went with this company. The main reason, though, for why I chose to buy from them is because I've already had their Birds of Paradise tea and it has quickly become one of my favourites. I had it when I was at Cafe No. 95 in Newcastle. Food was excellent but it really was the tea that did it for me :) A cup (well, two actually - it was served in a big infuser which pretty much gave two cups) costs less than £3. That's quite profitable as my 50g Birds of Paradise order from Ringtons was about £6, if I remember correctly. Anyway, I'm happy I can now re-live that moment of fruity green tea bliss in the comfort of my own home. Aahhh...
I actually haven't opened my BoP yet. I went straight for the Green Tea with Jasmine as I was feeling up for a basic green tea. I really like Heath & Heather's Green Tea and Jasmine which come in teabags but the Ringtons one is much more flavourful. The best green teas I have ever tried in my life are from... *drumrolls please* Nudo! Yes, the sushi restaurant. If I'm not mistaken their teas are legit Japanese ones. I really miss working there. I could just bathe myself in free high quality green tea all day.
I think I'm straying away from the point. Anyway, I look forward to trying each and every tea I ordered from Ringtons - I bought 5 different ones! Yay!

Book Review: The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
I finally finished reading Eowyn Ivey's The Snow Child!
And, boy, am I glad to have found this book in the library. I've been wanting to read this for aaaaaages. I felt it wasn't the right season to read this book but - oh well - maybe I'm just weird like that. I picked it up anyway because I knew I was going to like it. I have read the summary before and have been eyeing it at Waterstones for quite some time.
This book is about a couple, Jack and Mabel, who live in a cabin in Alaska. They haven't been blessed with a child (they had one but the baby died at birth) and although they've kept themselves busy over the years, it was something that kept creeping back in their minds.
One night at winter, during a snowfall, they decided to have a little bit of fun and build a snowman. Or a snowgirl in fact. They dressed her with a red scarf and some mittens. The next day, the snowgirl was gone. A little while later, sprinting across the snow was a blonde-haired little girl wearing a red scarf with a string of mittens around her neck.
I really love this book. I think it's best to read it by the fireplace during the winter months. It has got that chilling yet fresh vibe about it and I like how it kept me cool while it was nearing around 25 degrees here in Edinburgh. I never thought a book could regulate your personal temperature controls - but there you go. I love Ms. Ivey's writing style. It's very poetic and beautiful but not overly dramatic. When conversing with Faina, the snow child, their exchanges aren't written with any quotation marks - which I thought was quite unique - so it felt as if they were just speaking through their minds. That probably wasn't the case at all but I like how that made me feel as if all other noise was muted so you can only hear their words.
I love the descriptions of the homestead, the snow, the mountains, the food. Alaska seems like a faraway place in a faraway time - much different to what we are used to today. For one thing, they 'process' their food themselves - as in plucking out a bird's feathers before they can prep it for dinner. I like the snippets on hunting and finding your next catch.
If you enjoy a little bit of magic without going overboard, I think you would enjoy reading The Snow Child. Fans of Cecelia Ahern would definitely find this book appealing.

I wish to be the mother you are to me, she said softly so Mabel doubted her own ears. But those were the words she spoke, and Mabel took them into her heart and held them there forever.

Post-holiday Notes
Greetings! I just can't stress enough how the year is passing by so quickly. I didn't get to blog at all in June - oopsies!
June was simply wonderful. My parents and I went on holiday to Turkey for a week and it was more than enough to shake the work blues off our system. Turkey is such a beautiful country and we absolutely would love to go back again. Many thanks to the staff at the Seyir Village Hotel in Fethiye for being the nicest and most accommodating people ever.
Top 5 things I like about Turkey:

Top 5 things I like about Turkey:
- Everyone is friendly. Like seriously. I wish everyone gets to experience how well-mannered the Turkish are and apply the same values within themselves.
- Prices are very reasonable. The food, the hotel, transport - everything. It really won't make a hole in your pocket and you'd go home feeling as if you've done and seen a lot.
- Sunsets. Need I say more?
- I also like how it's perfectly warm - yet you don't sweat.
- Life is so simple in Turkey. Time goes by so slowly and you really get to reflect on the little things.
I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to come there. Here's to more travels!

A Long Weekend
It's bank holiday in the UK! That means it's a long weekend for most of us. I had a wonderful three days off and I feel great!
Let me post a picture of tonight's dinner - munggo with salmon, prawns and veggies in a bed of rice/cous cous! I am really happy with how this turned out. Very yummy! I'm having green tea with it - as always!
It has been a rainy weekend so I didn't go out much. I did a bit of online shopping for my sister, read more of 'The Snow Child', watched a bunch of 'Gilmore Girls' episodes, and browsed at The Gyle Cente. It was a pretty chill weekend - just the way I like it.
Sadly our man Mr. Pacquiao didn't win yesterday :( But that's okay. That doesn't make him any less of a great boxer. Looking forward to see him win more matches!

Last Day of the Month!
Wow - has it really been nearly a month since I last posted on this blog? *blush*
It's a new month from tomorrow - time to turn over a new leaf blog-wise ;)
April has been a pretty fun one. Quick, too, I must say. I turned 24 this month, yay! And I had a lovely time seeing my family, boyfriend, and friends over the week-long holiday I had.
One of the highlights of April was seeing Nicki Minaj and Trey Songz in concert! I initially wanted to go to the concert because of Trey <3 I was pretty much in love with him back in 2010 - haha! I don't know most of Nicki's songs but I thought it might be nice to see her. Best decision ever! I had so much fun with my friends at the concert. Nicki is so pretty and everything was just... pink! :D
Moving on, I've started reading a new book this morning while I was on the bus to work. It's The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. I remember wanting to read this while I was still at university but I never got the chance to. Or the money to purchase it - haha! Anyway I saw it while I was browsing at the library and thought 'Why not'. I think I like it. So far it's giving me that 'The Crane Wife' vibe.
Thank you, Lord, for a wonderful month. Thank you for letting me complete six months into my work. Thank you for enlightening the minds and hearts of the Indonesian officials. Thank you for your peace.

Exploring Edinburgh
Back in February my boyfriend came to Edinburgh for a visit. It was a bit rainy that day but we had a great time!
Edinburgh is really a wonderful city to explore and there's lots to do in a day. I particularly enjoyed our lunch at the Vietnam House Art Gallery in Haymarket - nothing beats a bowl of warm noodle soup and good company!
Looking forward to our next adventure <3

Solar Eclipse
March is just about to end and I just realised I didn't get to write anything for this month. It has been a very busy few weeks.
There was a solar eclipse yesterday. I love how my boss is very fascinated about it that he actually invited us all to step out of our dark, gloomy office to witness the eclipse. And! He even asked one of our guys to burn this piece of glass for our maximum viewing experience - haha!

Berwick-Upon-Tweed is Amazing!
I love Berwick. We spent the weekend there and it was one of the most rejuvenating ones I have ever had. I love how it's so dainty and peaceful - my kind of place!
I know lots of people prefer being in the city and all that but, honestly, this is kinda my dream home. It's a lot like Sunderland - just a little less modern. I would love to come back here again.
The hotel we stayed in was super nice too - I totally recommend The Cobbled Yard Hotel which is just a few minutes walk from the train station. Come to think of it, EVERYTHING is a few minutes walk from anywhere. You could literally roam the whole place in a day.
It looks like spring is coming soon and I just can't wait! :)

It's Friday... tomorrow!
It's only Thursday yet I'm feeling extra happy the more I think about the weekend :)
I haven't even got anything planned - haha! Now that I think about it, I usually spend my weekends pondering about nothing in particular, doing nothing in particular, and simply enjoying the little bits of freedom from work and responsibilities.
I love the weekends. I love quiet time. I love giving myself the opportunity to get away from it all. Last week I spent the weekend chilling at home, running some errands, watching movies, and getting that much-needed haircut. This weekend I plan on visiting this lovely vintage tea room near our flat. I hope it won't disappoint!
As much as I would love to shop for new teas, I am trying to resist the temptation as I still have a lot more to go through (see previous entry on 17th January). I came across the Teapigs modern matcha kit today while I was browsing the web. It looked pretty cool and I had this sudden need to purchase it although it cost a whopping £35 (the kit includes the aerolatte, a shot glass, and the matcha powder). Good thing that 'need' only lasted a few minutes and then I was over it! Haha! :) I was just thinking that in case I mess up while using the kit, I didn't want it to put me off from drinking matcha tea latte from other places :p I guess I'll go to Starbucks or something to satisfy my craving. Too bad they don't serve it at Bon Tea Room in Corstorphine, which is the very place I'm thinking of trying this Saturday.
Oh weekend, come closer please! I'd like to continue reading my book as well. This time I'm reading Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. I've finished reading a graphic novel called The Night Bookmobile by Audrey Niffeneger. It's really good. I plan on borrowing more graphic novels from the library soon.
So glad it's Friday tomorrow! Yay!

New Glasses
By the way, I haven't shown you my new pair of glasses. I got these as a Christmas present for myself :) The colour doesn't show up too well on my webcam but it's a nice royal (slightly navy) blue. I paid around £80 for this including the anti-reflection coating and super lightweight lenses (as my prescription is quite high!). They're from Specsavers.
Just being silly :p

Wintry Morning
I love snow. The air seems much fresher and everything feels lighter when it snows. I did a happy dance in my head when I stepped outside and saw this...
Aah, so pretty... And here's where I work. Our little office is just under the bridge.
Which reminds me - today marks the 3rd month from when I started working here. Which means I am off my probationary period and I am now officially a permanent employee :)
I like where I work and I am eternally grateful for all the things I learn each and everyday. There are times when I feel like I am being called to pursue something else and there are times when I feel that I'm okay where I am. But either way I know for the short time I have been here I have grown so much as a person.
Here's to more wonderful times ahead <3

Relaxing Saturday
Thank God it's Saturday!
Putting the rough week aside. I just want to lay low and enjoy 'me time'.
Today I went to get some groceries and to stock up on green tea. Didn't go for my usual Holland and Barret ones - tried something new. I went to this tea shop in Edinburgh (I forgot the name!) which was a nice little shop of goodness. They sell loose leaf and bagged teas as well as coffee and other health foods. I loved browsing through it. I'm gonna have to come back again someday. For now I bought Ahmad London loose leaf green tea, Ahmad London black tea with fruit bits, and a quinoa bar. I spent less than £6 which was good.
I also went to see The Theory of Everything. I've wanted to see that film the first time I saw the poster for it. I'm not very familiar with Stephen Hawking's work (I remember not being good at Physics at all back in the day - haha!) but I did a presentation on motor neurone disease a few years back. The film was nice. I didn't particularly love it but it was good nonetheless. I admire Hawking. It's great to see his motivation to continue his work despite his illness.

PS. The tea shop is called Jordan Valley Wholefoods on Nicolson Street!

Stupid and Contagious by Caprice Crane: Review
Stupid and Contagious by Caprice Crane is the first book I finished reading in 2015...
I downloaded this on my Kobo before the Christmas holidays. At the time I was in the mood to read something quirky and cute - I must have found this title while searching for Meg Cabot-like books. Yes, Meg Cabot books are my guilty pleasure!
I guess I fall in love with book characters easily. Like, waaaay easily. For every book I read there must be someone that takes my fancy instantly. So that's like a few hundred fictional crushes over my lifetime.
This is the story of Heaven and Brady, next-door-neighbours who annoy the daylights out of each other but end up being the most fitting couple there is. Brady is pretty awesome - he's my book crush, by the way! He has his own music label and as a 'hobby' he is also an inventor. He's got a good ear for music and is a generally nice guy. And I particularly like how he genuinely feels upset when Heaven is upset.
Heaven's expertise, on the other hand, lies in PR - although she's pretty good at being a bad waitress. She enjoys reading Brady's mail (mail that's addressed to Brady!) and being an overall annoyance (which she doesn't necessarily do on purpose).
The search for the Starbucks owner Mr Schultz is what brought them together. I love it! It's a modern adventure-slash-road trip. I think while I was reading up to the middle chapters of the book, I was feeling quite happy that I found the book - the 'It' book for me. It's funny and relatable and I appreciate how it's real and to the point. The last few pages up to the end were a bit of a downer, though. It was just a way too happy ending for my liking. But overall this book made me feel good and I had such a fun time devouring its pages! Totally recommend!
